WISHING WELL, JERSEY

This contemporary home on Jersey's west coast sits on St Ouen's Bay and features an upside-down layout. Constructed of local granite and rammed earth, the materials tie the building to its beautiful yet rugged surroundings.

The lighting scheme we developed supports the overall design intent, with decorative fixtures that are considered and refined but bring layers of character. Made from paper, oak and porcelain, they move to blown glass, cast glass and aged brass where greater durability is needed, complementing the finishes used across the interior. Discreet architectural lighting subtly accentuates rich textures and muted tones, like the exposed rammed-earth walls inside the home.

Lighting controls have been kept simple with traditional switches and dimming, and PIR-activated low-level night lights aid navigation in circulation areas. Externally, perimeter lighting can be switched from key entrances and an astronomical time clock controls lighting to the landscaping and extended driveway. Luminaires were carefully chosen for their suitability to the coastal location, with copper wall lights and bollards developing a natural patina from the sea air.
