THE RED HOUSE, UMEÅ
Our lighting scheme for this family home celebrates the interplay of heritage and contemporary elements. The design responds to a comprehensive renovation and extension.
A link between two existing buildings uses traditional Douglas fir with a modern interpretation. Decorative wall lights mark hidden doors to adjoining rooms and draw the eye through the gallery, while discreet accent lighting highlights artwork and creates focal points.
Traditional plank ceilings are preserved yet subtly utilised, with surface-mounted spotlights showcasing red quartzite worktops and artwork. Cast glass wall lights add visual interest and warmth. A striking colour palette and rich finishes are complemented by warm lighting, while lighter floor materials provide a sense of brightness in the dark winter months.
